Goodreads Reading Challenge - 2020

"For last year's words belong to last year's language and next year's words await another voice."
 - T.S. Eliot

Book lovers rejoice!
2020 is here which means a whole year to attempt at hitting your Goodreads goal then crying to yourself in December when you're miles away. Last year I was a little ambitious and set my goal to 100; I read 8. This year I thought I'd set a more reachable amount of 25 (didn't reach that either but there ya go).

In October 2019, I started my university course - English Literature with Creative Writing (it's me, would I really study anything else?) - and it's given me a lot less time to do the things I love doing, mostly reading. When I started my course, I felt bad every time I even thought about reading for fun because, in my head, if I was in the mood for reading then surely I should be studying... Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my course but one of the modules I begun with bored me to the point of nearly quitting. I'm a massive nerd and even I couldn't get into it. After switching that mod I've now found studying a lot more fun (absolute geek) and I don't have to push myself to do it as much. I now ensure I always make time for reading my fantasy so I don't fall apart without it! A world without books is not a very good place to live let me tell ya...

For CHRISTMAS (my favourite time of the year), I'm just going to boast to you guys because if you're reading this then clearly you're a little into books so I can make you jealous (love you). My boyfriend (Jack), brought me to spend the day with him and his family. Jack's mum - without any suggestion - gave me a special edition hardback of 'The Binding' - Bridget Collins. IT HAS PURPLE SPRAYED EDGES! Okay so I actually hate the colour purple BUT this book is just so freakin' gorgeous. When naked it reveals a beautiful foil design too; I may have squealed a little. Don't worry, I will be posting a review and lots of photos of this beauty once I've finished! Lisa's even asked to borrow it straight after me because it looks so amazing (full story details in review).

I have something to admit...

I've given into temptation...

I'm a bad human (troll, pixie whatever I'm mixed with)...

I mayyyy have possibly re-subscribed to Fairyloot. Yes, that's right, I'm horrible and I shouldn't be allowed money. BUT HEAR ME OUT! I was extremely excited for Erin Morgenstern's new book (The Starless Sea) to be released because - in case I haven't mentioned - 'The Night Circus' is my all-time favourite book. I was even more excited for the special editions I knew were going to be released alongside it; but I missed them. It upset me so much and I refuse to miss another.
For those of you who don't know, Fairyloot is a monthly subscription box which includes a special edition book (only available through them) and loads of cool lil bookish gifts to go with the genre of the book given. They also do collectors edition boxes with some new releases such as the 'Finale' of 'Caraval' - Stephanie Garber, which I received a while ago (and still haven't read, I'm a bad person). These boxes come with bookish gifts specifically made for the book, chosen by the author, and of course a special edition version of the book - I will post pics soooon. I have recently pre-ordered the collectors edition box of 'Chain of Gold' - Cassandra Clare which will be released in March. No, I haven't actually read any of her coveted City of Bones books yet, yes I know I'm a disgrace, but I couldn't miss this edition.

So, it looks like I'll have a lot of reading material for the year but we'll see if I actually sesh it out this year or fall into another reading slump; wish me luck guys. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and a drunken New Years that had you falling on your faces crying out for Rhysand (yes, I've nearly finished the ACOTAR series).

What's your reading goal for 2020?
