So I've always been in love with the game 'Would You Rather' and I really don't feel like I need to explain the rules buuuut if there are some people reading who have been brought up by wolves (first of all, please tell me your story because that would be the start of an awesome novel...), it's basically a game in which you make a hard decision between two options which are usually both unimaginable.
Growing up playing this game it would always be quite innocent, but it seems that the author of this quiz wants to watch my world burn (pun intended - you'll see), so I'd like to share my trauma with you all.
Okay, this one wouldn't be so hard for me. I feel as though the way I engage and empathise with the characters in each story I read help me to become a better person as I learn from each adventure. You can have favourite books, share your views with other people and forever live in the world which has been created for you. HOWEVER I think forgetting every book I read would actually be freakin' awesome. Imagine, you know a book is amazing but you can't remember the cool plot twists so you get to experience them again and again. You cry just as hard every time you read of Dumbledore's death... Yeah, 100% I'd choose that!
Simple answer, bookstore. A library would also be pretty cool but think about all of the new releases in a bookstore *drools*. Special edition hardbacks everywhere, unread and untarnished... Ohhhh and the smell, you can't forget about that new book smell. I love the idea of being trapped in a place filled with books that you will be the first to read. Please can someone lock me in a bookstore, I beg you!
This one is a bit more difficult, even though heartbreaking endings kill me, I could not read a book and not know how the conflicts are resolved. I could understand it if it was the first in a series BUT I'm guessing that the sadist who asked this question is speaking specifically about a standalone or even the last book of a sequel. Kill off my favourite character, let the dog die just please don't leave me in the unknown... "I GOTS TO KNOW!"
Another hard one for me to decide - because the rest have been sooooo easy - but I would have to say I would prefer to read only the last page of a book. See, I'm kinda cheating, as in my head I'm imagining the book would already be well known and so, I technically, could go without reading all the details (in a tormenting world), yet still understand the plot from other reviews. The last page would be the most important because as I said on the last question, I need resolution. To read the first page of the book which is always the most attention grabbing, but never know where it leads to or how it ends would break my heart.
This one is probably the easiest for me to decide. Obviously I'd rather drop my book in a lake! I could fish it out quickly and dry it in the sun; although not an ideal circumstance, it would certainly be better than setting it on fire. I don't think I could live with myself if I burnt one of my books! Sitting here imagining my favourite book alight in front of me, the fantasy world burning before my eyes is bringing tiny screams to the front of my brain, there's no recovery for the poor thing! Nope, nope, nope.
I honestly love a book which doesn't end with a happy ending because I'm cynical and Hollywood narratives don't make me as emotional. That said, of the two I would choose for the love interest to be killed off so you can live through the reaction of the main character. Although, if the story is told in first person, I guess I would prefer for the main character to be killed off? It's difficult, I think it depends on the character's individual story, I'd like to lose the one which would give me the bigger heartbreak as I feel it makes for a better story but that's just me.
Definitely read only one genre forever. I could just cheat and pick YA fiction but if I had to pick one specific genre of couuurseee it would be fantasy. I barely sway from fantasy as it is even with so much choice. Right now I'm reading ACOTAR for the first time, well I've actually just started ACOMAF but I'm in love. Anything involving magic and mythical creatures I just fall in love with.
Soooo I lent my favourite book to my mother-in-law who is an avid reader and always reads such amazing stuff and I was excited to hear her take on 'The Night Circus' Erin Morgenstern. Butttt she DNF'ed it and broke my heart! I can't complain as it is quite a twisted story and that's kinda my thing. As I said to her at the time, this is why there are so many different stories, no book is loved by everyone! I would love to share book hype with my worst enemy. I don't even think this would be a bad thing, I think it would just show there are some similarities between everyone and it gives you some common ground to work with. I'd think it's awesome if anyone liked my favourite books!
From previous replies you already know which I'm gonna choose. Let's cut out the middle chapter, that leaves me with the opening which always has the most beautiful scene descriptions and the ending whichhhh tells me how the story will end - of course - the main elements. Obviously this means I miss out some of the main story but it's only one chapter, I can live with that, I think...
I would love a book that everyone hates. I would go to stupid lengths to defend a book I love and try to change people's mind. I think if I hated a book everyone loves then I would constantly feel as though I'm missing the main point of the story. I'd re-read it a million times and just not understand everyone's admiration for it. So yeah, loving a book that everyone hates means I can hype it up and make the author feel better about their story and hopefully change a few people's minds.
Okay so this has broken me internally, I'd love to know what you guys would choose in each scenario, give me a little explanation too, tell me how much you disagree with me! If you'd like to take a look at other people's answers and sit through the whole quiz then you can find that
HERE.
What are your opinions on these difficult choices? Can you think of a more horrible question for a book nerd?
